About me

Welcome to my website. I’m Thomas Kohler, an environmental economist and lecturer at Bochum University of Applied Sciences.

I’m fascinated by how people act within complex systems – in markets, organisations, or the digital sphere. My goal is to help us understand these systems better and make them serve people better. To that end, I work with micro-theoretical models: I develop and analyse them to reveal underlying mechanisms and identify opportunities for improvement. I then try to bring the insights from my research to where they can have the most impact. Through this work, I’ve come to see how crucial it is to strengthen problem-solving skills – a conviction that shapes my approach to teaching.
